Our significant contributions to computer science range from the foundations of programming languages, human-computer interaction and parallel computing, to recent developments in intelligent Web technologies, computer vision and risk assessment.

Our world-leading computer scientists work on core developments, like building fast reliable networks and smart secure software, as well as novel technologies such as video surveillance for security, face recognition, tools to augment human interaction (for example, between jazz musicians), improved methods for information retrieval (think of Google) and software to support decision-making (for example, in banking or in court rooms). Our enthusiasm for our research keeps our teaching exciting and up to date. We also have excellent links with industry, working together on commercial and research projects.
